PPLE College offers a selective interdisciplinary Bachelor’s programme for top students from all continents. It is PPLE’s firm belief that tackling global challenges, such as climate change, requires insights from multiple disciplines and in particular: Political Science, Psychology, Law and Economics. From these different perspectives, we need to consider the responsibilities and obligations of companies to keep the global rise in temperature well below 2 degrees Celsius, as stated in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

climate change

Many companies are aware of the need to reduce their emissions, to bring more sustainable products and services to the market, to take into account the carbon footprint of suppliers and to be open about measures taken. However, most companies do not yet come close to what is required to stay well below 2 degrees. That is why it is useful to think about:

• what companies must do legally and morally;
• how they can be induced to increase their level of ambition;
• which obstacles must be taken to achieve the desired goal.

The financial sector and politics can play a very important role in the transition to more responsible business operations (it is already quite active at the moment). What is already being done and what possibilities are there to increase the efforts?

In this symposium we want to discuss these issues with experts, company representatives, banks and investors, supervisors, legal professionals and NGO representatives and with interested students and staff.
