“I am an assistant professor in the accounting section of Amsterdam Business School. My research focuses on experimental managerial accounting research. At PPLE, I teach the course Accounting for students specialising in economics and business. This course introduces students to accounting, the language of business, and covers the fundamental topics related to both financial accounting and managerial accounting.

I enjoy teaching at PPLE a lot. Students here are curious, motivated, responsible, and open. The small-scale classes allow for active learning and more meaningful interactions. Students are very willing to ask questions, share their thoughts, and are open to different opinions. As a lecturer and tutor at PPLE, I always learn from my students and we grow together.

I think the interdisciplinary approach at PPLE significantly enriches the learning experience of students. In the accounting class, every time when we discuss practical accounting issues and accounting research, I am always happily surprised by the insights students bring in. They do not just look at accounting in isolation but they link it to what they learn in other courses such as solidarity, markets and organisations, human rights, and economics. I believe this interdisciplinary mindset helps students think more comprehensively, critically, and independently, which are very important qualities for their future studies and career.

In general, I think it is important for university students to understand academic research, even in an applied discipline like accounting. Luckily, PPLE thinks the same and has a research-based component in its programme design. Therefore, in my course, I discuss both accounting practice and accounting research. I hope students not only learn what accounting is and how it works but also develop the ability to think scientifically and be able to solve problems on their own in the future. ”
