English language requirements

Requirements

  • Please refer to the entry requirements overview and check whether you are meeting the English proficiency requirement to PPLE College through your secondary education diploma*.
  • If your English grade is insufficient or if English is not included in your final exam you need to take a supplementary English proficiency test to meet the English language requirement.

*Please note that you are only exempted from a supplementary test if you obtained your diploma less than two years before the start of the progamme.

Supplementary English proficiency exams

The specified scores below are minimum admissions requirements. Lower scores will not be accepted. If your scores are insufficient, you will need to retake the test. When you send in the results, please refer to the contact details of test centres below.

PPLE College only accepts sufficient test scores that have been obtained less than two years before the start of the programme. 

TOEFL

Required minimum test scores:

  • TOEFL Internet-based (iBT): overall score - 100
    • Reading - 24
    • Listening - 22
    • Speaking - 25
    • Writing - 24

The TOEFL reporting number is 9011 - University of Amsterdam. Students will need to enter this code on their answer sheets when sitting the examination.

  • TOEFL MyBest scores are not accepted. The subscore requirements must be met on one single test session. 
  • TOEFL home edition is not accepted. The test must be taken on location. 

IELTS

Required minimum test score:

  • IELTS academic: overall score of 7.0, and not more than one subscore on 6.5. All other subscores must be at least 7.0

IELTS Online test is not accepted.

Cambridge

Required minimum test scores:

  • CAE or CPE - C1 with a minimum score of 190

It takes some time for the Cambridge results to be published, so make sure you book a test date that is early enough for the results to reach PPLE before July.

Non-EEA applicants

For immigration purposes, all students who are required to apply for a visa or residence permit must demonstrate that they will meet the English proficiency requirement before 1 May. Thus you either need to provide PPLE College with sufficient test scores of one of the beforementioned test providers before this deadline, or your most recent secondary education transcript demonstrates that you will meet the English requirement through your diploma.
