Johannes von Engelhardt

“I have been working at PPLE since 2016, teaching courses in research methods and statistics. Most students probably know me best as the main lecturer of the mandatory first-year course Introduction to Statistical Analysis. When I am not teaching at PPLE, I work as a freelance researcher, mostly in the field of international development. I studied at the UvA myself (Research Master Social Sciences), before I went to Erasmus University Rotterdam where I got a PhD in Media Studies and also taught at an international programme for several years.

Overall, I would say that the typical PPLE student is internationally oriented, socially engaged, and is highly motivated when studying or working together with fellow students and teachers. What I really like about PPLE is the sense of community that we have here. Compared to other programmes, it is so much easier at PPLE to just bump into some of your students at the coffee machine, have a chat about how things are going, or about issues they encounter within their studies. This atmosphere of direct and open exchange is something I value a lot.”
